FREE SPEECH AND CRIME PERMISSION

Some youtube influencers as Leo Lins, Danilo Gentili and other standup artists have been performing using homophobic, fatphobic and racist speech. They have been processed and have paid high mults. They complain saying they are just using their free speech, but what they´re really commiting crimes for Brazilian Justice.
THE BIG TECHS Lula has always been a defender of Freedom of Expression. But Brasil is under attack by crime perpetrators who promote fake news, pedophilia, homophobia, racial and religious attacks. The Big Teachs didn't even answer to brazilian Justice about the denounces.
To avoid it, or to ban the criminals from the web, Lula submitted the Cybercrime Law to Congress for discussion and approval. This has resulted in a set of laws addressing crimes on the internet. This made Big Techs turning against brazilian government and our Supreme Federal Court.

BOLSONARO AND THE FASCIST DAYS

ATTACKS ON JOURNALISTS
Bolsonaro has never accepted a free press and constantly threatened journalists, especially women, yelling and saying "trash" to the newspapers and TV stations they worked for. He and his son created a "Hate and Fake News Office" using social medias and improving their access to mass media boosting fake news using public money.

CARTOON BY AROEIRA

Bolsonaro attacked cartoonists. A police inquiry was initiated in June 2020 at the request of his Minister of Justice, André Mendonça, to investigate a crime as defined in the LSN (National Security Law of the dictatorship). Aroeira’s cartoon used a Nazi swastika to refer to the president. When he was threatned by Justice Minister, more than 300 cartoonists drew new versions of the cartoon in a large brazilian movement.
The Public Prosecutor's Office (MPF) considered unfounded and requested the filing of the procedure.
The Brazilian Press Association denounced the intimidation of cartoonists Laerte, Montanaro, Benett and Mor from the newspaper 'Folha de S. Paulo'. They were targeted by justice action from an entity of military police in São Paulo. The Justice considered it ilegal and censorship.

BACK TO DEMOCRACY BUT...

Despite the dictatorship had finished in 1985, just in 1989 Brasil had the first direct election for president and the winner was Collor de Mello. After him it was Fernando Henrique Cardoso (FHC), Lula da Silva, Dilma Rousseff and the far right wing Jair Bolsonaro.
Bolsonaro (who must go to jail soon) always defended the military dictatorship, torture, and opposition militants murder. When FHC was president of Brazil, he was federal deputy and declared that the dictatorship killed too few people, that they should have killed at least 20,000, starting with the president. He was not reported at the Deputy Congress and had no sanction.
In 2013, President Dilma Rouseff was impeached, Bolsonaro voted for the impeachment saying: “I vote in honor to general Brilhante Ustra, Dima Rouseff’s terror”. Ustra had tortured Dilma when she was a left wing militant during brazilian dictatorship.

1964/1985 BRAZILIAN DICTATORSHIP

Under the false argument that Brazil was to become Comunist, a military group staged a Coup d'Etat. With war tanqs, armies and USA support, a dictatorship was installed closing congress, workers unions and prohibiting popular meetings. The official and parallel repression service arrested, tortured and killed more than 2,000 people. At about 1024 political prisoners were documented as tortured until the end of the dictatorship.
In addition, 1,918 political prisoners testified to having been tortured between 1964 and 1979. The military dictatorship was marked by a system of torture that involved interrogation centers and military prisons, where prisoners were subjected to cruel and mortal methods. These data reflect the severity of repression and the violation of human rights during this period.
THE CENSORSHIP SUFFERED BY THE NEWSPAPER O PASQUIM IN THE YEARS 1969-1974
Pasquim, Movimento, Opinião, Versus, Lampião were some of the small newspapers (alternative Press) that have tried to publish what big Press didn't. In many cases the censors used to go to the Press rooms to read every article and essay and decide what could and what couldn't be published.

NANICA PRESS RESISTANCE IN THE MIDST OF REPRESSION

Pasquim was a newspaper belonging to the alternative press that opposed the Brazilian Military Regime during its hard-line period (1969-1974) after the establishment of Institutional Act No. 5 (AI 5), which limited the rights and freedom of Brazilian citizens.
Hundreds of articles and cartoons were censored, it forced writers and artists to create forms to escape from the censors.
The same hapenned to book writers, film makers and musicians, many of them had to move out from Brazil in exile after their art pieces were cutted or prohibited.

PRESS CENSORSHIP IN BRAZIL

S.O.S.
News censored by the government were exchanged for excerpts from 'Os Lusíadas', a Portuguese poem from 1500, and recipes for cakes that were impossible to eat.
The newspaper O Estado de São Paulo was prevented from publishing more than 1,100 articles during the dictatorship period and published the same Portuguese poem 655 times.
Many times this was an attempt to inform about suspicious deaths of journalists (as Vladimir Herzog) and activists, as well as political crimes and torture. This number does not include articles that were never written due to self-censorship by the reporters.
The official government reported jornalist Herzog' murder as suicide. Jornalists Union of SP had a big judicial fight to clarify his death causes and after this, create a Prize to honor the Press profissionals of text, pictures and cartoons.
